World On A String
WORLD ON A STRING WAS A MONTH LONG CELEBRATION OF THE TIMELESS ART OF PUPPETRY AND WAS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST PUPPETRY FESTIVAL EVER HELD IN AUSTRALIA.
The event brought together some of the best local and international puppeteers and companies to create a festival of puppetry unlike anything seen in Australia before.
World On A String provided Chadstone audiences with incredible live entertainment experiences, including performances from one of the world’s most impressive and respected puppeteers Philip Huber, who performed his puppetry in the film Being John Malkovich.
World On A String brought an art form that can (literally) pull on the heart strings to Chadstone for 5 consecutive Saturdays in September 2018.
The festival featured an array of puppetry styles – from traditional marionette string puppetry on a purpose-built Marionette Theatre, to shadow puppetry and black light puppetry in a black box theatre, to String Symphony – a 4m tall puppet built from ropes that the audience could interact with.
World On A String brought an art form to Chadstone that was a new experience for many people and was enthusiastically received by audiences. It was also whole-heartedly embraced by the puppeteering community, with many puppeteers and artists not involved in the festival attending the event.
